“Downriver” is the name Metro Detroiters use for the group of communities south of Detroit along the Detroit River in southern Wayne County. It includes waterfront cities like Wyandotte, Riverview and Trenton, the island township of Grosse Ile, and inland suburbs like Southgate, Taylor and Allen Park. Downriver offers some of the best housing value in Metro Detroit, quick access to I-75, I-94 and Detroit Metro Airport, and a strong sense of local identity.

Why buyers look Downriver
Waterfront living at accessible prices
Few places in Metro Detroit offer as much river and canal frontage as Downriver. Wyandotte, Riverview, Trenton, Grosse Ile and Gibraltar all have waterfront neighborhoods, parks and marinas.
Value
Downriver median prices are generally below those in western Wayne and Oakland County suburbs, so buyers often get more home or more land for the money. [Insert MLS comparison: Downriver median vs. Wayne County median.]
Commute and airport access
I-75 and I-94 run through the region, with Fort Street, Telegraph Road and Jefferson Avenue as major corridors. Detroit Metro Airport is a short drive from Taylor, Romulus and Southgate, and downtown Detroit is typically 20–30 minutes from most Downriver cities.
